Kao Unveils Climate-Responsive Sunscreen for Ultimate Comfort

Kao Corporation Unveils Climate-Responsive Sunscreen its new Bioré UV Aqua Rich Airy Hold Cream, a climate-responsive sunscreen designed to adapt to varying environmental conditions. This innovative sunscreen features humidity-responsive technology that changes according to moisture levels, ensuring it remains non-sticky in humid climates and prevents dryness in air-conditioned spaces.

The Solution to Sticky Sunscreens

With rising temperatures and humidity in Japan, sunscreen stickiness became a common complaint. Kao’s Bioré UV Aqua Rich Airy Hold Cream addresses this issue head-on. According to a 2019 survey, over 90% of sunscreen users suffered from sunburn despite using sunscreen. Furthermore, a 2024 study showed that 65% of women used parasols or other barriers to avoid sun exposure. Kao’s new sunscreen was developed with these concerns in mind, offering a comfortable, easy-to-use solution.

How It Works: Innovative Technology for Comfort

The new sunscreen is powered by Kao’s humidity-responsive technology, integrating agar hydrogel capsules, UV absorbers, and a water-retaining polymer in its water-based formula. These capsules break down during application, creating a smooth, breathable texture that adapts to environmental moisture levels. The product thickens in humid conditions, then returns to its original state, keeping skin feeling comfortable.
