A new study from Cosmetify highlights the growing trend of fragrance use among Gen Z, with 83% of this generation regularly wearing perfume in 2023, surpassing the usage rates of Gen X (79%) and Boomers (69%). This rise in fragrance popularity is paired with the increasing demand for dupes—affordable alternatives to luxury scents that offer similar fragrance profiles at a fraction of the cost.
Cosmetify has compiled a list of 2024’s top fragrance dupes that resemble iconic, high-end perfumes while keeping prices low.
1. Coco Mademoiselle, Chanel
Dupe: Eau Nude, Next
Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle has been a beloved fragrance for two decades, known for its citrus, rose, and patchouli blend. Next’s Eau Nude offers a similar scent for only $8, compared to the original’s $84 price tag.
2. Black Opium, Yves Saint Laurent
Dupe: Midnight Blossom, M&S
M&S’s Midnight Blossom mirrors the signature coffee, vanilla, and floral notes of YSL’s Black Opium for just $10, making it a 90% more affordable alternative.
3. La Vie Est Belle, Lancôme
Dupe: Soleil, Next
Known for its sweet and fruity notes, La Vie Est Belle by Lancôme is a popular fragrance among all age groups. Next’s Soleil combines iris, jasmine, and vanilla, offering a comparable scent to the original.
4. Flowerbomb, Viktor & Rolf
Dupe: Floral Love, Aldi
Aldi, renowned for its affordable alternatives, now brings its Floral Love fragrance as a dupe for Viktor & Rolf’s Flowerbomb. With jasmine, orange blossom, and patchouli notes, this fragrance comes in a bottle strikingly similar to the luxury version.
5. Baccarat Rouge 540, Maison Francis Kurkdjian
Dupe: Red Temptation, Zara
The iconic Baccarat Rouge 540 by Maison Francis Kurkdjian is known for its luxurious amber, saffron, and cedarwood scent. Zara’s Red Temptation offers a near-identical fragrance for only $24 for 80ml, making it more than 90% cheaper than the original.
Cosmetify’s findings underscore Gen Z’s increasing interest in luxury dupes, with many opting for cost-effective alternatives that don’t compromise on scent. This shift reflects a growing desire for quality fragrances at a fraction of the cost, allowing younger consumers to enjoy the luxury experience without the premium price tag.
