Cosphatec has expanded its Natural Multifunctionals collection with two new diols: Cosphaderm Propanediol, a palm-free option, and Cosphaderm Hexiol. Cosphatec introduces its new palm-free Propanediol and plant-based Cosphaderm Hexiol.
Cosphaderm Propanediol is derived from corn through fermentation, providing a clear, colorless, and water-soluble solution that serves as a non-petrochemical, palm oil-free alternative. This versatile ingredient acts as a moisturizer, humectant, emollient, and solvent, making it suitable for various formulations, including water-based, oil-in-water, water-in-oil, and surfactant-based products.
The growing demand for sustainable alternatives is driven by the EU’s deforestation regulation, which impacts palm-sourced materials. Cosphatec has also engaged with RSPO to explore solutions for sustainable oleochemicals in personal care.
In addition to Propanediol, Cosphatec introduces Cosphaderm Hexiol, described as a “pure, transparent, colorless, and odorless diol of natural origin.” Cosphatec introduces its new palm-free Propanediol and plant-based Cosphaderm Hexiol.
Thanks to its two vicinal OH-groups and short carbon chain, Hexiol boasts unlimited water solubility, making it ideal for use as a humectant and moisturizer in skin and hair care products. It can also stabilize oil-in-water emulsions by reducing droplet size, as demonstrated in studies using static light scattering.
Additionally, Hexiol features pH-independent antimicrobial properties, which Cosphatec highlights for their “remarkable synergistic effects” when combined with other antimicrobial agents, allowing for a minimal use of preserving agents.
All raw materials used by Cosphatec are sourced entirely from natural and biodegradable origins, adhering to RSPO guidelines and receiving COSMOS approval to ensure ethical sourcing. Cosphatec introduces its new palm-free Propanediol and plant-based Cosphaderm Hexiol
