The Scent & Care segment of German specialty chemicals manufacturer Symrise recorded a 12% sales increase in the first half of 2024. After accounting for exchange rate fluctuations, sales rose to €993 million ($1.073 billion) in the reporting currency, compared to €886 million in H1 2023.
Symrise noted that its Cosmetic Ingredients division continued to perform well in the first six months of this year, achieving double-digit percentage organic growth once again. Significant sales increases were observed in the EAME, Asia/Pacific, and Latin America regions, while the North America region experienced only slight growth compared to the same period in 2023.
The sun protection and Micro Protection business units posted the strongest growth, according to the company.
The Scent & Care segment generated EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) of €182 million, reflecting an increase of €42 million from the previous year’s adjusted figure of €140 million. The segment’s EBITDA margin improved to 18.3%, up by 2.5% from last year’s adjusted margin of 15.8%.
Group-wide, Symrise reported an EBITDA of €530 million, an 11.5% increase compared to the previous year’s adjusted figure, with total sales reaching €2.565 billion (H1 2023: €2.414 billion).
